KIDS HOLIDAY ON BASKETBALL

Wellington Basketball Association's Development Officer Kenny McFadden – Mr Basketball himself and his team of basketball coaches - Fotis Liolis, Assistant Coach, Wellington's NBL Century City Saints and Andrew Hayward delivered fun and exciting basketball skills to keen children during WBA's 2-week school holiday programme.

Coaches Andrew Hayward, Kenny McFadden and Fotis Liolis

The programme ran from Monday to Friday, 10am to 3pm each day for the last 2 weeks, much to the delight of the parents who couldn't imagine a better way for their kids to spend the day - getting exercise instead of sitting at home watching the box!

Friday afternoon, on the last day of the programme, Kenny and his coaches held a recognition ceremony presenting prizes from AND1. Team work, commitment, the willingness to cooperate and determination to be a better player were some of the attributes that earned some of these kids the prizes.

Here are some of the prize-winners below:

Wellington Basketball Association holiday programme runs during every school holidays of the year, except for the Christmas/New Year break. Look forward to catching up again at the end of Term 2. Have a great second term kids, from WBA.

BASKETBALL IS FUN FOR THE KIDS!

What an enjoyable 2 weeks, as Wellington Basketball Association held a successful and enjoyable holiday programme for the 7-12 year olds at South West Stadium.

Huge thanks to Wellington’s St Laurence Saints, Brendon Polybank; WBA’s coaching staff, Fotis Liolis, and Tall Black trialist, seven-foot tall Callum McLeod for supervising, coaching and entertaining the kids over the last 2 weeks. Of course, there was always the occasional visit from Mr Basketball himself, WBA Development Officer Kenny McFadden.

It was amazing to see how much energy the kids had, to come day in and day out for a work out! Hopefully, every one of them will have to talk about it to their friends when they return back to school next Monday!

Special recognition goes out to Jin Jeon

(posing here with Chan Woo Beck), who received a signed St Laurence’s Saints singlet from Brendon Polybank.

It was in recognition for a player who had the best attitude during the clinic, listened and followed instruction without complaint, and was the most improved player as a result. Many of the kids have improved their basketball basic skills, and are looking forward to the next holiday programme!

Keep an eye on this website to register for the next holiday programme beginning 27 September 2005.

Meanwhile, check out some more photos from the basketball clinic.

Brendon Polybank making his judgement!
